Hello everyone!
Sorry for the delay! I have had a wonderful (and busy) vacation which lasted six days. Even though I caught a bad cold in the Freshman Camp, I still had a lot of fun and I hope all of you did have a great time too!
As to my RP ideas, I have decided to abandon my original choice--Greeco-Roman mythology , an area which I have been quite familiar with and found it unchallenging ,and change the topic into my other interest: Jane Austen. I believe that all , or most English majors have read or studied Jane Austen's works. In her brilliant novels, we can observe the interaction between the sexes has barely changed until modern days. When we cry for the heartbreaking moments of the characters or laugh for the happy endings, it is also evidently clear that we are experiencing the similar feelings even in nowadays. The sentiments remain the same; while the roles of females have changed greatly compared to that period time when Miss Austen produced so many remarkable works about relationship.
In light of this, I decided to do a compare and contrast about the similarities and differences of females' role from Jane Austen in the 18th century to the 21st century.

Hi,dear Rococo Princess, I am so sorry for responding you so late. Haha, anyway, here I am to give you some feedback on your RP ideas. I am interested in your topic since it is related to female issues. :) I have read "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen before and I think it is really a splendid work. However, according to what Doris had said in the class, for a junior research paper, we should have a controversial topic and we need to take one side. Therefore, maybe you have to fix your topic a little bit; I mean, maybe you do not have to change your topic, but you need to raise a controversial issue based on your original topic. In fact, I have the same problem as you as well. But don't worry, let's just work hard together and I believe we will finally survive. :D
Dear Pace:
According to your response, I am going to share with you the result of my painstaking- pondering- process!
When we read Pride and Prejudice, it is obvious that the status of women has greatly changed compared with modern days; that is, women enjoy more freedom and are ever-more independent. Just look at the women in Sex and the City. The four beautiful women are all beautiful, witty, and smart, but above all else, they do not have to rely on a male figure in order to survive( although they do wish to find true love!) In some episodes we can even observe that they are able to provide financial support to their lovers... whereas the females in Jane Austen's period could never have imagined so much self-governess. However, since they have never experienced the joy of independent woman, they seemed to be contented with their lives; what's more, they accepeted their fate without questioning.( Look at Charlotte Lucas, married to a man she does not love but for the sake of financial security, which much reflected the situation of women of that time.) But this kind of concept or convention is not agreeable to Jane Austen, an insightful, sensitive lady whose ideas of relationship is pretty much advanced than those around her. The pursuit of love and affection is a universal sentiment which all human beings share, and Jane's words through her characters(Lizzy, the most obvious case)have proved themselves to be timeless and remains true even till today.I am very interested in her way of percieving the interaction between the sexes and its similarities to that in the modern times, so that I can show that her ideas and theory are really ahead of time .
